What Is Love?

What is love?
A surprise.
Flowers blooming on the sidewalk
Blossoming so cynically
Where gravity doesn’t exist
And people are doing crazy things
Pushing, turning and moving away

What is love?
A simple infatuation.
People hiding true feelings from the world
Having a foolish attraction
Possessing an object of affection and passion
Or playing mind games
And pretending nothing ever happened

What is love?
A broken heart.
Having a picture of a family member
Once passed away
Remembering the good times and the bad
Recalling the memories you once had

What is love?
An unspoken word.
Having someone very close to you
Stay with you
Sitting next to you
As silence overcomes you both

What is love?
A friend.
Someone to keep you on your toes
Make you smile when you’re feeling down
Mentioning everything in a comforting tone
Hiding their true feelings for you
But making sure you’re not alone

What is love?
Any given hug.
Disguised as nothing more
No feelings behind them
And given whenever you need them

What is love?
A sensation.
Feeling butterflies in your stomach
Like the first time you kissed
Melting in each other’s eyes
Before your lips nearly touch
Anticipating the next time you’d see them
Whether it be an hour or a day, a week or even a month

What is love?
A feeling.
Never holding back in a conversation
Exposing feelings never explored before
Knowing that person is always there
For more than the emotional support

What is love?
A moment frozen in time.
Such that like a picture
Kept at one second
Where things could go poorly
And anything might happen

What is love?
An experience.
Holding hands or flirting
Cuddling, kissing or wrestling
Maybe just playing around
Such like an infatuation
Admiring the person you’re holding in your arms

What is love?
Confusion.
Feeling like it should come naturally
Believing nothing can bring you down
Having it only disappoint you more
Wondering why it’s turning out like that endless cycle
The one you hated and despised before

What is love?
A reality.
Where infatuation stops
And things aren’t easy
Tolerating each other no matter what comes along

What is love?
But a mere word.
Being true to your heart
And not hiding how you feel
Avoiding secrets and lies at all costs
And taking into account what is real
