Drive

I’m driving in my skis
Skis wedged between the seat and the glove compartment
I fly down the hills
And the gas pedal is glued to the floor
Mosquitoes whip past my windshield like snow
Next thing I know I'm in my blue suede shoes
Singing praises to the King
Dancing on the brakes
And my car jerks to the perfect beat of "Jail House Rock"
Causing passersby to believe the King is not dead
No sooner do my blue suedes fade
Than I'm wearing my marching band bucks
Gliding smoothly on the open field
Right foot on the gas
Left foot on the brake
As I mark time the stops and starts go a perfect 120 beats per minute
But when the orchestra coming out of my tailpipe reaches a hold
I change into rubber boots drenched in rainwater
Slippin' and a slidin' down the street
As I scream the anthem of "Splish Splash" out the window
Once the water dries I discard the dirty boots and slip into my moccasins
Prancing with Pocahontas
She soars ten feet with every step
I leap from the stick shift to the steering wheel
Jerking the wheel I take that leap of faith down the waterfall
Submerged I'm in flippers
Squawking like a seal
Waddling like a duck
I manage to drive up the riverbank
Just in time for a desert sandal bash
I "Walk Like an Egyptian" all night long
Giving the car the funkiest groove yet
But at the break of dawn
Nothing relieves my foot from the cold metal of the pedal like my slippers
Droopy eyed I drive
Putting down the road
Then that surge of energy comes from the leather of tap shoes on my toes
Going faster than I've ever gone before
Dancing to any song on the radio
Each one quicker than the last
Until I pull into my driveway
Walk inside and throw my Adidas away
Like one more day
Worth the drive
